Combining the Standard with an additional deduction

For most taxpayers in our state, due to tax law changes during the Trump administration, the Standard Deduction (one generic subtraction from your taxable income) is more favorable than Itemized Deductions (a list of specific subtractions from your taxable income). However, in addition to the Standard Deduction, there are still some deductions that can be used to reduce your tax. For example, up to $300 per tax return can be deducted in 2020 for donations to charitable organizations. If you made charitable donations in 2020, be certain to provide the amount along with your tax documents at preparation time.
